Give yourself some space. This holiday season we’re reminded of our old traditions: large gatherings of friends and family in living rooms and kitchens, potluck dinners, and frenzied crowds on Black Friday. As we all know, and perhaps are weary of being reminded, 2020 has been anything but a traditional year.

REI has recently launched their #OptOutside on Black Friday campaign, to encourage us to prioritize our well-being during the holidays. COVID-19 has taught us what we take for granted, but has also reminded us of the joys and peace of nature, even in our own backyards. Having safe and convenient access to natural outdoor spaces allows us to remain connected, healthy, and happy during a time of distance.

On Black Friday, venture outside to parks and trails instead of lining up at stores and malls. Spend quality time with yourself or who you’re close with and allow yourself the gift of reconnecting to the world around you. This year is the perfect opportunity to begin new traditions! Dust off your bikes, plan your hike, practice your photography, go fishing, challenge your exercise goals, or try something new. Explore the beautiful outdoors that Fredericksburg region has to offer.
