Aquia Church

(540) 659-4007
2938 Jefferson Davis Hwy (at Route 610), Stafford, Virginia 22554

A national historic landmark, built between 1751-1757, Aquia is one of the finest examples of colonial church architecture in Virginia, and one of the oldest churches still actively used in America. The church is noted for its Aquia stone trim, like what was quarried locally at Government Island for the White House and U.S. Capitol. Visitors travel from around the world to study its example of the Lord’s Prayer as hand-painted in calligraphy on wood behind the altar. The original three-tiered pulpit and great sounding board are still intact, making it one of the best-preserved church interiors of its era. Grounds open daily; interior tours by appointment Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Visitors welcome at weekend church services.
