This trail follows the historic Sunken Road and passes through Marye’s Heights, finishing at the Fredericksburg National Cemetery.  Sunken Road is a prominent site of the Battle of Fredericksburg, one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The stone wall well protected the Confederate Army stationed behind it, proving a detrimental end to the Union Army. The Fredericksburg National Cemetery is the resting place for over 15,000 Union soldiers who died in prominent Civil War battles in the Richmond, Washington, D.C, and Fredericksburg area.

This trail is part of the Fredericksburg Battlefield.
