Friday, May 24, 10 am – Second Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Armed Services Memorial, 1300 Courthouse Rd, Stafford, Virginia. Sgt. Charles Calvin Strong never met his daughter, Sophie. His wife, Taylor, was pregnant with her when Sgt. Strong was killed in 2014 while serving in the Marines in Afghanistan. He was 28-years-old. Taylor, a Stafford County native, and Sophie Strong will be special guests at Stafford’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony and will place a wreath in memory of Sgt. Strong and those who, along with him, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country.
Saturday May 25, 8 am to 12 pm – Blue Star Mothers of Fredericksburg Chapter 4 – Join us as a volunteer OR wave to us as we place yellow ribbons along the medium strip in Central Park & along the lampposts on Caroline Street and William Street in downtown Fredericksburg.
Saturday, May 25, 2 – 3 pm – A Special Saturday Before Memorial Day Tribute at Ellwood Manor- Please join us as we honor those Civil War soldiers who gave their lives on the Chancellorsville and Wilderness Battlefields. The program will be held on the grounds of the historic structure Ellwood, which served as a hospital for Confederate casualties during the Battle of Chancellorsville and then one year later was the scene of Federal headquarters operations during the Battle of the Wilderness. Ellwood will be open from 10am – 5pm and Friends of Wilderness Battlefield volunteer interpreters will be available to talk with visitors and answer questions.
Saturday, May 25, 6 pm Luminary Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery – Hosted by the Fredericksburg Ladies’ Memorial Association Luminaries will bum throughout the cemetery for the 3,550 soldiers interred. 6:30 – 7:30pm – Guided Cemetery Tour by Dan Janzegers. Saturday, May 25, 8 -11 pm – Luminaria – The National Park Service will host the 24th annual luminaria at Fredericksburg National Cemetery. In the event of rain, the date will be moved to Sunday, May 26

May 27, 1 – 2 pm – Memorial Day event to Honor Stafford Veterans – As part of the Stafford County Cemetery Committee’s ongoing mission to recognize US Veterans buried in Stafford County’s family cemeteries, we are proud to announce that this year, we will be having a Service of Remembrance for the Veterans interred at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church.
Monday, May 27 2:45 pm, War Memorial Ceremony – The FAVC (FREDERICKSBURG Area Veterans Council) will host their annual FAVC MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY IN DOWNTOWN FREDERICKSBURG AT THE OUR FALLEN HEROES MEMORIAL ON THE CORNER OF LIBERTY STREET AND GEORGE STREET. This event is open to the public. Chapter Members please wear dress uniform: Navy Pants/Skirt, white shirt, Optional: Navy Blazer/Hat/White gloves.
Monday May 27, 6 – 8 pm – Memorial Day Concert – The Rappahannock Pops will present its annual free Memorial Day Concert on Monday, May 27th, 6:00pm in front of Mary Washington Hospital. Bring a lawn chair and join us as we honor our local military. Watch the kid’s parade, and enjoy snacks and baked goods.
